You’re at the height of summer and also at the edge of what comes next. Vacations and dorm room plans. Celebrations and back-to-school lists. Football practices in the morning, fireflies in the evening. If you feel the tension of being in two seasons at once, this episode is for you.
In this short, grounding episode, Amy offers a contemplative breath prayer for each of the nine Enneagram types anchored in Isaiah 43 and the ancient practice of pairing Scripture with breath.
This isn’t about forcing peace. It’s about interrupting the spiral, just for a moment, and remembering what’s true.
The Enneagram can name your patterns. It can't set you free from them. That's the difference between insight and transformation, and it's the whole focus of this summit.
Well, friend, here we are. This unique moment in midsummer that holds a unique space for us every year. You're at the height of summer's finest moments, and the celebrations, the big ones, well, they've just happened. It's behind us, and yet there are probably still a few vacations to be had, and there is some time to slow down and breathe. But happening alongside the beach trips, the fireflies, and the long evenings are school plans being laid. Perhaps your kids are ordering things for their dorm rooms, and plans for moving far away are coming to get a little bit clearer. And lots of lists are being made. Even football practices are picking up. So the rhythms are shifting, but the calendar doesn't quite match that shift. You're celebrating and you're also preparing. You are present to the height and the goodness of summer. And you're also fully aware that the wind down is coming, that the shift will happen. And that is an in-between space. And I want to invite you to pray through that today. It's a liminal space, if you will. It's a threshold where you're between what was and what's coming next. It's not quite fall and you're maybe not even done celebrating, but there's also this middle place of planning or maybe even a desire to not plan, but you know you need to. And I want to offer some breath prayers to meet you in that space. I am choosing to be grounded and I am being held. I don't want you to force peace or pretend that the complexity isn't there, but it is about interrupting the anxiety spiral or the overwhelm just for a moment and reminding yourself what's true and what holds you. Today I want to invite you to hear the words from Isaiah 43, using it as a grounding passage of scripture. Notably helpful in these threshold moments, carrying us through the difficult times and reminding you who you are, and reminding you who God is and how much He loves you. Isaiah 43, verses 1 through 3. But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name. You are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up. The flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Do you hear it? It wasn't written if you pass through the waters. Isaiah assumes the hard moments, the win moments. He knows that there's going to be transitions and confusion, lots of in-between moments. And he reminds us that God says, I will be with you. And that's what I want to invite you in to anchor into today. Not to escape from the liminal space, still keep present within it, but no, God will be with you. Over the next several minutes, I want to invite you to walk through a breath of prayer for each of the nine Enneagram types. They're certainly not a one-size-fits-all or any particular way to figure out your Enneagram type, but they're invitations to let your particular way of moving through the world to become a doorway into stillness, silence, and solitude. Now, after you hear one, you might feel it land for you immediately. It speaks to where you find yourself. Or you might find yourself drawn to more than one. That's all right.

Take what meets you, leave the rest, or send it to encourage a friend today. For the Enneagram one, the liminal space can feel like a failure.
SPEAKER_01
Not enough has been fixed, accomplished, or even improved yet. And the one sees all that still needs to be done. Inhale. Exhale.
SPEAKER_00
The rest belongs to Grace.

For the Enneagram 2, the liminal space can feel like abandonment. If you're not actively needed, are you still love? The two is invited to learn that being not doing is enough. Inhale I am wanted just as I am. Exhale. I can rest in that. For the Enneagram three, the in-between can feel like stalling. Shouldn't you be accomplishing something? So you are invited to learn that your worth is not determined by your productivity. Inhale, I am more than what I produce. Exhale. I can be still and still matter. For the Enneagram 4, the liminal space can feel like meaninglessness. If nothing is unique about this moment, what's the point? You're invited to learn that the ordinary moments contain beautiful depth. Inhale, my life is sacred, even in the mundane. Exhale, even this simple moment belongs to my story. For the Enneagram 5, the liminal space can feel vulnerable. Too much is unknown. Too much is demanded on uncertain resources. So I invite you to learn that not knowing is not the same as being depleted. Inhale. I have enough for this moment. Exhale. I can step forward without mastery. For the Enneagram six, the liminal space can feel dangerous and unsafe. What might go wrong? What am I not seeing? You are invited to learn that vigilance is not the same as safety. Inhale. I am held by one who sees all.
SPEAKER_00
Exhale. I can rest my scanning now.

For the Enneagram 7, the liminal space can feel a little bit like being trapped. Because if you're not moving toward the next thing, are you stuck? You are invited to learn that presence is not the same as being trapped. And staying still doesn't mean you're bored. Inhale, this moment is enough. Exhale. I can be here without being limited. For the Enneagram 8, the liminal space can feel a little bit like losing control. If you're not commanding the outcome, who is? The eight is learning that surrender is not weakness. Inhale, I release what I cannot hold.
SPEAKER_00
Exhale, I trust what I cannot control.
SPEAKER_01
For the Enneagram 9, the liminal space can feel like you're losing yourself. There's so much going on around you. Where are you in it? Where are you finding yourself? You are invited to learn that your presence matters here. Fully offering your presence. It truly matters here.
SPEAKER_00
Inhale. I am here and I matter. Exhale. My voice deserves to be heard.

Friend, while you're here, still at the height of summer and yet preparing for what happens next, I hope that you can be fully present and aware to the celebrating and the planning. The in-between space is just a threshold. And a threshold can be a truly sacred place. I hope that you choose one of these breath prayers. Maybe you write it down or you just put this on repeat or begin your day for this whole month, every day, breathing in, exhaling, and releasing. May one of these meet you. And if nothing else, the scripture reminds you that as you make it through these waters, through the fire, God has got you. Remember what is true. When you pass through those waters, God will be with you because He is your Lord, your God, your Savior. So, friend, before you go into the next thing, take a breath and take what you need. I'm excited to join with you in this midsummer breath prayer break. It's gonna look a little different the next few weeks here on the podcast until we pick up with the Enneagram five month beginning in August. I have so many beautiful things in store for you. I can't wait, including a sneak peek into my audiobook, Wholehearted Enneagram. From type to transformation as God's beloved. Friend, remember, your starting point isn't your stop point.
